▷ First Impressions
▶ VISUAL: 10 Vigilant Gaze appears to be a suit of stone or ceramic armor, standing almost eight feet tall and occasionally leaking bright blue flames. He has four arms.
▶ AURAL: 10 Vigilant Gaze sounds kinda like Brian Blessed, a big and booming baritone
▶ OLFACTORY: 10 Vigilant Gaze smells mainly of dust and metal. He has no natural odor himself, but his armor is quite old
▶ DEMEANOUR: Friendly, mild mannered, big. His personality tends to fill the room.
▷ IC Permissions
▶ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: I have no problem with this OOCly, but ICly the flames that comprise Vigliant Gaze's true body are freezing cold and very dangerous. Hug at your own risk
▶ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: 10 Vigilant Gaze is EXTRAORDINARILY dangerous in a fight, being enormously tough, strong, and fast, and also having tens of thousands of years of experience and training in martial arts. Engage at your own risk
▶ RELATIONSHIPS: 10 Vigilant Gaze is aromantic and asexual, but also enjoys having friends.
▶ PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: 10 Vigilant Gaze is not human and has enormous personal willpower from millennia of training. Probably pretty resistant to any psychic or psionic effect that pure willpower can overcome
▶ MAGICAL INFORMATION: Magical scanning might reveal 10 Vigilant Gaze's true form, which is that of a giant winged bull with no head. From its neck rises an eternal flame, and at the top of the flame rests a ring of eyes. He is an incredibly powerful being, but in terms of actually being able to USE magic, his ability is approximately zero.
▶ MEDICAL INFORMATION: He is a spirit of divine fire, and so has no organs to take vitals from, but he is also immortal and EXTREMELY difficult to kill.
▶ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: He's a big boy who doesn't really have any triggers.
▷ OOC Permissions
▶ BACKTAGGING: Go for it! The worst that can happen is I won't respond (and I might not if it's more than, like, a week or two old)
▶ THREADHOPPING: If it's a kind of silly thread then feel free to jump in willy nilly. If it's something more serious, please ask first.
▶ FOURTHWALLING: I would prefer you do not.
▶ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: I don't PERSONALLY have any real triggers, but if you're mentioning something particularly graphic or offensive (rape, child abuse, etc), maybe put a warning into the subject header for the sake of others reading our thread.
▶ ANYTHING ELSE? I think you're pretty cool.

The first commandment of YISUN is "Let there be no Genesis."

YISUN was the ultimate being, who never had and shall never have an equal. They had no beginning, or no end. They contained all knowledge, all power, and indeed the entire universe. They were also miserable, for they were alone. Imagine holding in your heart infinite stories and having no one to tell them to. So YISUN committed Deicide and split themself in two, becoming White Un, the male god of empty and still places and lord of all that Is Not, and Black Yis, mother of the rampant flame. The two of them fought for seven years, then made love for seven hours and gave birth to 777,777 gods in black and white, who together built Throne, the home of the gods, and there they lived for an unknowably long time. It got more complicated when the forge god Koss created the first of the four order of inheritors. The Servants, to maintain their works, and the Angels, to protect their works and maintain the law, were intentional. Mortals and Devils came later, by accident. Eventually, the gods grew bored of loving and fighting and living in general. So each god walked to the edge of Throne and faced outwards, and each god told a story, and each god's voice was like a fiery thread that extended out into the void, with a whole world forming at the end. Then the gods died, or passed on to some other existence that we cannot perceive. It's unclear. 777,777 gods, 777,777 universes, with Throne acting as a mausoleum for them all at the center of the great wheel that is the multiverse.

An age passed, with no one in Throne but dead gods and watchful angels. Then one day the firmament was breached by a mortal man. Zoss, the biggest badass in the history of time and space, used forbidden sciences and dark magic to find his way into Throne and found a crumbling city full of massive, bloated angels. The angels told him he could not be here and tried to make him leave, so Zoss fought them all and killed them all, and so inherited the Throne and became the Ruling King of all Creation. Angels cannot truly die, though. Eventually they started to reincarnate. Zoss and his followers made a new compact with the angels, allowing them back into Throne but on new terms.

It worked fine, for a while, until Zoss vanished and the thirst for conquest and power overtook his followers. They went mad, dragging most of the Great Wheel into war. In the end, only 7 remained, and they formed...not exactly a peace treaty, but an agreement to not actively murder each other, declaring themselves the 7-part gods of Throne. A prophecy was discovered by one of their number, however. It spoke of the successor, who would rise, flanked by a white flame and a black flame and followed by 108 stars, and they would inherit the power of the Conquering King and slay the seven headed beast. It's not hard to interpret the last part of that, so the seven would-be gods lived in fear of the day this would come, despite being currently the most powerful beings in the all of creation.

Personal History: 10 Vigilant Gaze Purges The Horizon is one of the strongest of the surviving angels, but is well known for his tendency to spend centuries on end in the void between worlds, staring off into the distance and meditating. He is known for being mild mannered, long winded, and having way too much time on his hands. There was, however, a recent event that forced him to take action.

82 White Chain Returns From Emptiness appeared in the void, banished from the physical world by her master. There she was met by 6 Juggernaut Star Scours The Universe, who tried to recruit her into the Thorn Knights, an order of angels who have abandoned the compact made with Zoss millenia ago and seek to end all life in the universe. To scour the great wheel clean, and then wait for life to return anew and judge if it is worthy of their protection. Though White Chain denied them, she was very clearly rattled by the encounter. Vigilant Gaze watched the whole thing, but took no action.

He didn't think about the encounter again until about a year later, when he heard White Chain's name again, but this time in the physical world. Two other angels there were discussing her, and contemplating whether going through 81 reincarnations had addled her mind. They could think of no other reason why she would strive so hard to protect humanity when it had done nothing but ruin the works of the gods.

Vigilant Gaze felt disgusted by this. He abandoned his eternal vigil and meditation, in favor of hunting down White Chain to give her a talking to. His quest took him to the home of Solomon David, one of the seven gods who rule the universe, who was holding a massive tournament that, for her own reasons, White Chain was partaking in. What he found was that White Chain was on the path of the Thorn Knights. She had turned her back on the oath that all the angels had made, ages ago, to protect the works of god.

Juggernaut Star tried to drag her away, to properly join the Thorn Knights, and that was finally when Vigilant Gaze intervened. He reminded White Chain of her oath and beat the ever loving SHIT out of Juggernaut Star.

Unfortunately in doing so, he disqualified himself from the Ring of Power. And so he was left to watch, as White Chain continued on. White Chain now faces a self-proclaimed god, and all Vigilant Gaze can do is watch.

Personality: All angels are, by their very nature, extremely lawful. They are given to respecting rules and traditions, they are bad at lying and deception, and their default reaction to change is to resist it. The law was, very literally, beaten into them when they were first created by the forge god Koss just as you might beat an edge into a sword. Vigilant Gaze is no exception. The rules are very important to him, and it takes a very serious turn of events to even consider bending them, much less breaking them.

He is a very powerful and important figure in his universe's cosmology, and this status has allowed him to grow complacent and not feel the need to challenge certain injustices that have become so familiar to him he barely thinks of them as injustices anymore. He lives in the void between universes where he spends his time in meditation and contemplation, and in having polite conversations with other travelers of the void. He is, in short, in a perfect position to be a petty tyrant.

So it's a fortunate thing that he is not. Vigilant Gaze took an oath to protect the works of god, and "the works of god" includes, at his last check, literally everything. Though he has fallen into something of a rut in recent millennia, he still believes in this oath, and when events finally force him to take action and to think about his situation, he stands up for protecting the innocent and against those who would cast judgement on that which they fear or don't understand. Vigilant Gaze is ALL IN on protecting the works of god, but he prefers to do so with a light touch. He doesn't get directly involved very often. His main goal is not to directly punish devils or mortals or other evildoers, his goal is to intervene when other angels show signs of corruption. If angels are cops, He's the Internal Affairs officer. He steps in to make sure his colleagues are actually doing their jobs and not terrorizing people unnecessarily.

Vigilant Gaze is mild mannered, most of the time, and consistently polite. He prefers to try and solve matters by discussion rather than violence whenever he can, and generally has a kind of paternal aura about him. Most angels think they are better than most mortals, but this takes various forms. Of the two other angels mentioned in the history section, White Chain finds mortals to be short sighted and impulsive and in need of watching, while Juggernaut Star finds mortals to be disgusting filth in need of extermination. Vigilant Gaze, on the the hand, treats mortals like children who need to be guided and protected. He talks down to people while still being perfectly friendly, and tends to gravitate towards a sort of wise elder role.

And yet, paradoxically, he also holds mortal in an almost fearful awe. The average mortal is confused and greedy and immature, but Zoss, the conquering king who slew all the angels for the first time, was a mortal. Of all the inhabitants of the Kill Six Billion Demons Universe, mortals have the weakest average power, lacking the magical power of the devil or the physical might of the angels, but they hold within them a terrifying power: Ambition. Hunger. Want. A mortal, properly motivated, can reshape the world from the ground up. Thus, while Vigilant Gaze's default stance towards mortals is paternal smugness, he knows that they can be much more powerful than him in certain circumstances. It is entirely possible to earn his undying respect, if you apply yourself. It will outlive you, probably.

Key themes: Tradition and stagnation vs Innovation and reinvention. Standing up for your friends who don't fit in against a culture of knocking down anyone who goes against the grain.

Main Motivation: Vigilant Gaze seeks to preserve the works of god, called YISUN, and to inspire those around him to do the same. He opposes wanton destruction, upholds tradition, and protects those who cannot protect themselves.

Skills: Spirit body - Angels are not inherently physical. They are spirits made of freezing, smokeless fire and they are rarely humanoid. Vigilant Gaze, for example, takes the form of a great winged bull with a bonfire instead of a head, over which floats a ring of eyes. In this form, angels are vulnerable to harm, and also cannot touch any physical matter without setting it on fire. Not being beholden to physical biology, angels do not need to eat, sleep, breathe, or do any of those other obnoxious tasks mortals must to stay alive.

Angelic Armor - To interact with the material world, angels were given mighty suits of armor forged from ash. This armor is VERY sturdy and VERY heavy, to the point that any ordinary human would not be strong enough to move if they tried to wear it while the angel was not in it (if the angel WAS in it, any poor fool who tried to wear it would be incinerated.). Vigilant Gaze's armor is massive, standing at 7-8 feet tall and bearing four arms. His armor is as much a part of him as any material object could be. However, it has been innactive for a long time, and currently is having trouble moving due to being full of dust.

Immortality, of a sort - Angels can be "killed", but it's difficult. If you were to stab Vigilant Gaze while he was in his armor, he would be banished from the armor and forced to take on his spirit form until the obstruction was removed from his armor. If you were to then defeat and kill his spirit body, he would turn to stone. The stone form of a dead angel is supposedly indestructible, allowing the angel to rest until the spark of divine fire that makes their soul has time to recover, at which point the angel reincarnates with a subtly different personality and only scattered memories of their previous life. The number before an angel's name refers to how many incarnations that angel has been through. Thus, 10 Vigilant Gaze has been killed 9 times. The longer any particular angel's life is, the longer it takes for them to reincarnate. The first angels were killed millennia ago and still have not recovered. Thus, though angels can die, they cannot truly be permanently killed. I imagine, in this particular case, that if Vigilant Gaze were killed over the course of the RP, he would turn to stone and then resurrect as per the normal mechanics within the game rather than sleeping for a few thousand years.

The Old Law - When the forge god Koss forged the angels, he beat the law into them with his silver chisel YSMIR. Angels contain the Old Law within them, which gives them instant inherent understanding of the law of any land they visit. They just know.

Martial Arts - Angels spend their long lives studying martial arts of various types, and Vigilant Gaze has studied MANY of them. Many of them are styles that are supremely difficult for humans to learn due to requiring superhuman strength and stamina, or four arms. His favorite style is Fierce Horse Soul. Fierce Horse Soul style is one that is taught to all angels, and focuses on fighting defensively so as to weather as many blows as it takes to wear out your foe so you can get close and trap them with grapples or joint locks. True experts of Fierce Horse Soul style can use the energy saving techniques it preaches to store their power and then, against a foe so dangerous that it is impossible or foolish to attempt to capture them, unleash strikes of absurd power.

Stealth - When the forge god Koss made the angels, he imbued them with great agility, so that they might be more able to sneak up on wrong doers and apprehend them. Most angels use this to move about without their great weight causing the floor to creak, so as to not annoy others. It's only polite.

Item: The Comb of Prim. A red comb on a chain meant to be worn around the neck. The early angels were incredibly cruel and violent, punishing mortals with savage beatings or even death for the must minor of infractions. Prim, a goddess, saw an angel lashing some exhausted pilgrims with a whip of fire for not taking their shoes off in a temple. She called the angel aside and gave him a new task: the protect her delicate comb. He found that he could not continue to whip his victims without risking damaging the comb, and so was forced to put aside his whip and actually think for the first time in his life. All angels now carry one as a badge of their office, but also as a reminder that the law is important, but so is gentleness. Not all angels heed this warning.

Notes: We talked about some shit on discord so I THINK we're good to go!
